Hands-on Learning

My curriculum is centered around the whole child with a focus on phonics, reading, writing, math, science, community, fine motor and gross motor skills, social and personal skills.  It is important that each child grows in all areas of his/her learning and with my own teacher created curriculum and hands-on approach huge amounts of growth takes place.

Language:

Our preschool curriculum includes  American Sign Language and focuses on basic words, alphabet, names, manners, etc. We will perform two songs using sign language during our graduation ceremony in the four/five year old class.

Alphabet Time:

I am so excited about this new hands on approach to teaching the alphabet names and sounds through the use of interactive notebooks. This approach appeals to all learning styles and keeps students engaged and accountable for learning their letter names and sounds. Interactive notebooks allow students to USE the letters in multiple ways, helping to solidify the new learning through multiple sensory avenues (sight, sound, and tactile).  Students will bring home their completed notebook at the end of the school year.

Handwriting Without Tears (HWT)

This is an amazing program that focuses on multiple areas of learning including handwriting, letter recognition, shapes, numbers, etc. There are a variety of teaching tools that are used within the program including manipluatives, songs, Apps, chalkboards, books, puppets, and readers.

Leap 'n Learn Take Home Reading Program

This reading program is available to students who have a strong grasp of letter names/phonics and are ready to begin reading.  This gives preschoolers the opportunity to progress through level appropriate reading material in continuing their reading adventure at home.

Homework Program (Learning Bags/Homework Calendar)

I will be sending home homework calendars and learning bags for you and your child to complete together and return to school. The homework calendar will reinforce concepts we are working on in class each month.  Learning bags are used as a fun extension to our inclass learning.  Each bag is filled with games, manipulatives, puzzles, writing activities, books, readers, activities that promote all areas of learning including science, math, phonics, gross motor, fine motor, handwriting, scissor skills, communication, reading, etc. Learning is fun at A Place To Grow Preschool!
